Stack em High

It was a Happy Birthday to my hubby Frank this week.  One of these days he may just catch up to me (I'm 4 1/2 yrs old.....gasp)!  LOL  I decided to stack some pretend prezzies on top of each other to make a make believe "cake" with no calories.  (I guess you have to use a lot of imagination for this one. LOL)

Life has thrown us a lot of curve balls lately but we're all hanging in there.   Spending lots of time in prayer. We know that the Lord will help us through it all.  Amen!

Back to my card......the papers came from Michael's in their decorative paper packs......one was dots & the other damask in various pretty colors.  Manly cards are always a stretch for me but I like how this one turned out.  The baker's twine just topped it off nicely.  The "Happy Birthday" sentiment is from a Crafty Secrets digital set called Grand Greetings you can find HERE.

I would like to enter my card in the following challenges:

You make me smile

Happy Valentine's Day to my favorite Valentine of all.........my hubby Frank.  It's our 41st Valentine together........imagine that. Doesn't seem possible.  This is a super simple card as my hubby doesn't like a lot of 'stuff' on his cards........so I had to really restrain myself. lol

I recently told you about the Anna Griffin chalkboard stamp set that I ordered from HSN.  I was really happy that they came just in time to make this card.  I think they stamped up very well.  I used the black ink pad that came with the set.  The red ink is a Tsukineko Versa Magic dew drop called "Red Magic".  The background is a Cuttlebug embossing folder called "Chicken Wire".  I thought it added a bit of a manly touch.

I'd like to enter the following challenges:

Chalkboard style card

I can't believe that my baby boy Shawn is 30 years old today.  Wow!  Seems like only yesterday that he was just a cute little toddler.  I don't do too many masculine cards so it can really be a stretch for me but when I found this 'Me & My Big Ideas' chalkboard sticker set at Michael's I knew it would be perfect and I couldn't believe how quickly it came together.  I had to make some adjustments here and there with the red glitter paper and of course add the numbers.  His favorite football team is the San Franscico 49ers so I wanted to use those colors in his card. (We were pulling for them to get to the Super Bowl but they didn't quite make it through the playoffs. )

I just love the chalkboard look to the embellishments. It's such a hot trend right now.  I broke down and ordered some Anna Griffin chalkboard stamps from HSN.  I had some Christmas money left over and missed the sale when she was on HSN.  So I've been stalking their site every day until they came back into stock.  I was so excited when they did.  It's such a versatile set with 30 stamps.  Here's a little peek at them.  They even come with the dark green and black ink pads that are reminiscent of the old chalkboards. Can't wait to get them and start stamping.

I used my trusty diecutting machine to cut out the squares & circles.  Where would we be without those amazing machines.  :)

I'd like to enter the following challenges:

Happy 40th Anniversary to my Hubby!!!

I can hardly believe those words ~~~ 40th Anniversary!  Wow!  It does not seem like it's been that many years since I walked down the aisle on my daddy's arm and saw my handsome husband-to-be standing at the altar waiting for me.  My heart literally skipped a beat.  He still makes my heart skip a beat..........but maybe not for the same reasons.  LOL  But he is the love of my life and my soul mate.  And I'm so very blessed that the Lord placed us together so many years ago.

Happy Anniversary, Babe!  I love you!!!

Shocker.....a card!

Now don't fall over from the shock.......but I actually have a card to share............gasp!  lol  I don't know why I struggled so much with this one.  Guess it's because I normally don't make masculine cards.  But when I searched through my myriad of patterned paper...............as soon as I laid eyes on this one it screamed.....PICK ME, PICK ME!  So I did!  LOL  I wanted to put it onto black cardstock but it just kind of laid there............flat.  So I thought of pairing it with the kraft paper & it just came alive.  Then the jute tied it all together nicely (parden the pun....lol).  And I cut some Nestie squares to clean up the corners.

This card is for my hubby Frank's birthday on Sunday.  He normally likes CAS (clean and simple) cards although he told me that he loves any card I make for him..............aaaawwww...........but I know what he really likes best..........lol.......so I had to really restrain myself from adding any more pizzazz or doo-dads to it.  I wanted to put a button on top of the knotted jute but then realized that I liked the looks of the knot all by itself.  I guess there's hope for me yet to make more CAS cards.

We're having a big party for the lucky guy. We all feel like we're the lucky ones to have him in our lives.  He can be a "pill" at times..........but he's our "pill" & we wouldn't have it any other way.  By the by......Frank & I will be celebrating our 40th anniversary in July.  OMGosh......did I just say "40th"?????  Oh my, my.........I'm feeling ancient.  LOL

Thanks for joining me today & I hope to be crafting more & more now that I'm exercising.  I'm trying to get myself into better shape so my back won't keep going out on me.  My daughter's boyfriend is a certified personal trainer so he helped Frank & I get started on a healthier 2013. We do it together so we keep each other motivated. Truth be told.........I truly hate to exercise but he's given us very manageable exercises to do every weekday.  I can already tell the difference.  YAY!

**Card details:
DCWV "the All Dressed Up matstack" glittered DP
Nesties (Classic Squares Large and Deckled Rectangles Large)
Jute, black, white & kraft cardstock & silver balls all from my stash
"Happy Birthday" was computer generated using "Asia" font

Until next time............

Just livin' the Dream...

This card is a bit different for me as I used a photograph that I tweaked in Photo Shop Elements.  My daughter took this picture of her toesies last summer while at the beach & I knew instantly that I wanted to use it for her birthday card this year.  She loves the beach & the sun & getting her tan on.  She is truly a southern California girl.  Her birthday was Tuesday & she's been celebrating non stop ever since.  LOL  She loved her card & couldn't get over the fact that I used her picture.  Remember her card last year?  It was her pretty picture on a Cosmopolitan magazine cover.  You can see it HERE. I had to really do a lot of thinking to top that one but I'm pretty happy with how this one came out.  The kraft paper seemed to really suit the light pink digital paper to a tee.  The pink frame was from a digi by Sapna called Fun in the Sun.  I used pink washi tape & vintage buttons tied with jute to give the corners some pop.  A pretty pink paper flower & Antique Linen Distress Ink on all the edges was the final finishing touch.

I chose to use this sentiment on her card because my daughter & I say this to each other all the time when asked how we're doing.  We say........."Just livin' the dream!" whether we're having a good day or not.  Plus I felt the sentiment was fitting for a day at the beach.  Wonder what she was dreaming about?

Thanks for joining me today & a Big Happy Birthday to my Kimmie!!!  I love my beautiful Baby Girl!!!!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:
Southern Girls Challenge:  #59 Endless Summer (anything that conveys summer)

My Heart's Message

I wanted to share a cross stitch wedding sampler that I made for my niece.  (I wanted to wait until she received it  before I posted it on my blog).  This year I started cross stitching again after stopping several years ago.  I was having trouble seeing the intricate cross stitch patterns but decided to give it a try again and I'm so glad I did.  As you saw in my Christmas in July posts HERE and HERE I cross stitched a couple of small birdie pictures too.  So I guess my eyes aren't THAT old yet & I can still manage to do it.  PTL

(Note:  I'm blocking out their names and date to protect their privacy.)

If you remember............this is the Anniversary card I made for them.  You can read all about it HERE.

Thanks for joining me today & thanks so much for taking the time to leave me those sweet, sweet comments.  I love each & every one.  :)

Yippee Skippee!!!

My son & his wife are back in California after spending 4 years in New York doing his ER residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.  YAY!

The time really flew by.  I can't believe it's over & they're back home.  He will be working as an ER doctor in Bakersfield for the next year or two & then will look for something closer to us in southern California & closer to the beach.  My boy loves to surf! LOL

Thanks so much for joining me in celebrating my son's amazing achievement!  We are all so very proud of him.

Catch a Wave card

Hi Everyone! Sorry I've been MIA so much this year. Health issues, etc. have prevented me from crafting much but I just HAD to make my oldest son Brett a birthday card. He loves to surf & is coming back to California from New York with his wife at the end of this month. YAY! He's going to be working as an ER doctor about 2 hours away from us. I'm so thrilled to have him back home.

Anywho.........back to the card. I always struggle with masculine cards cuz I don't want to drown them in glitter & make them too girlie so I restrained myself & went with a more minimalistic card. Shock! (well it's 'minimalistic' for me anyway....lol)

The digital images I used came from artists at PcCrafter which unfortunately is no longer in business. Most of the images are from "Endless Summer" by Andrea Tachiera. I also used Debbie Mumm's 'Celebrations' birthday banner and the surfboard came from "Fun in the Sun" by Sapna. I really had something else in mind when I envisioned this card but I'm pretty happy with how it came together. The "birthday greetings" is hanging from the palm trees with scrapper's floss & swaying in the breeze. I 'stuck' the surfboard in the 'sand' & added an abalone shell button to the surfer image tied up with more scrapper's floss. That's my son surfing! LOL He's 6'4" so I can just imagine him riding that big wave.

Thanks for looking & leaving comments. They always brighten my day.

A Steampunk Birthday Card

My oldest granddaughter Alexis "Lex" is turning 22 years old tomorrow.  OMGosh........where do the years go?  I remember when she was born..........what a beautiful baby she was.  And she's still beautiful!  She loves the Steampunk style and purple and black is her FAVorite color combo so it came together nicely on this card.  This is my first time using a Saturated Canary image.  She's called "Gothica" and is a creation of the talented Krista Smith.

I was so happy to complete this card in time for her birthday.  It's been a crazy "whack-a-doodle" week around here.  Remember my daughter Kim had spinal fusion in March?  Well she had a NECK FUSION on Tuesday.  Poor baby girl!  She is in so much pain.  She said it's much more painful than spinal fusion.  I sure wish I could take the pain from her but all I can do is pray that the Lord helps her with it.  Your prayers would be so appreciated.  Thank you so much.

Well back to the card.  I wasn't sure it was going to happen in time for Lex' birthday but PTL I did finish it in time.  YAY!  I hope she likes it.  **UPDATE:  She loved it & said it was her favorite card I've ever made.  aaww sure made my heart sing.

Happy Birthday card

It's a happy happy birthday to my hubby Frank today!  I won't say how old he is now but he's catching up to me.  LOL  (I'm 5 years & 4 months older..........but shhhh........don't tell anyone........LOL)

I had to really step out of my comfort zone on this card.  If you visited me long enough you'd know that I love pink.  Pink & green are my favorite colors.  So this was a streeeetch for me.  Hope you like it.

The focal point of my card is a bicycle Photoshop brush I found free online.  Gotta love freebies.  I cut it out with my Nesties Labels One die cut (one of my very favorites).  I used a Tim Holtz pennant die I just got.  Love it! His dies cut so smoothly.  I distressed it all with DI black soot.  I even distressed the baker's twine.

The rest of the embellies & papers are all from my stash.  I made the bottom right button with a Tim Holtz reinforcement circle & a spinner......& then attached it to a metal button.  Frank thought it was a compass.

Thanks so much for visiting me today & have a wonderful week.

Happy Birthday to my Baby Girl

Today is my beautiful daughter Kim's birthday! She's my oldest child but my only daughter so she'll always be my special Baby Girl! I had a blast making this card for her (& she loved it).

I found "Be a Cosmo Cover Girl" on the Cosmopolitan magazine site where you can create your own magazine cover & upload your own picture. I had such a fun time coming up with various "article" titles that fit her personality. She said it was the best card I've ever done for her. aaaawwww melted my heart! I love her so much!

Her best friend took her to San Diego for the weekend to celebrate her special day & surprised her with tickets to see her FAVorite football team..........the San Diego Chargers. They play today & I hope they win big just for her birthday!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

So Sweet 16 card

Remember my beautiful granddaughter, Shaye, who just went to Homecoming (see my previous post for the full picture).......well.......today is her 16th Birthday!!!!! I can't believe that the baby of our family is actually 16 years old & now old enough to drive a car. Yikes! LOL Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!!! She's beautiful & smart & funny & just a delight to have around (well......most of the time......you know how teenagers can be........lol).

Here's the card I made for her special special day.

I wanted to use the perfect image for Shaye's card so when my dear friend Charlene made a sweet 16 birthday card for her granddaughter recently she used a darling pretty girl digital image from Crafts & Me so I just had to take a peek to see what else they had. I found this perfect image called Aliah. Her big hair reminded me of my pretty girl so I just had to get her.

She's colored with my Copics & I've added some feathers to her hair that I found at Michael's. Feathers are really the rage right now. But I think that ship has sailed for me. LOL Nothing like seeing a grandma in feathers. LOL (oh I can think of some other things to say about feathers & grandmas but I'm not "going there"......LOL)

The little charms are actually buttons I also found at Michael's. Although she better not go "clubbin"......LOL.....but she could really rock those shoes. My shoes are orthopedic.......LOL.....(not really but close to it....LOL). No more heels for this grandma..........boohoo!

I added the "Sweet 16" banner to the side of the card using some glittery letters I also found at Michael's. What would I do without my good friends Michael & Joann! LOL Oh and I'm so excited that we're getting a Hobby Lobby in southern California this Friday. YAY!!! Finally!!! LOL

**Note**She loved the card! aaawww....makes it all worthwhile! :)

Copics used:
Skin: E000, E00, R20
Eyes: E31, E33
Eye shadow: E31
Hair: E31, E35, E37
Lips: R11, R20
Butterfly & Strap: R81, R83
Flower: V000, V01, BV00, B60

Homecoming beauty

Since I don't have a card to share with you right now I thought I would share my (almost) 16 yr old granddaughter's pic. She's the tall beauty on the right. I can't believe she's going to be 16 next Monday. Wow! And she's growing up to be such a beautiful girl.......both inside & out.

Thanks for sharing in my joy. There's nothing like the joys of being a grandma (her older sis is 21.......where does the time go?).

Stay tuned.......cuz I'll be sharing her birthday card next week.

CUC DT Masculine colors card

It's time for our next challenge at Craft Us Crazy. We have had such amazing entries for our challenges. Thank you for making our challenge blog such a HUGE SUCCESS! I can't believe that this is our 10th challenge. Where has this year gone? For this challenge we would love to see your "Father's Day and/or Masculine Colors/Theme".

Today is my oldest son's 36th birthday & since blue is his FAVorite color...........it had to be blue (hey that sounds like a song..........It had to be you.......LOL). He's almost finished with his ER residency at a New York hospital so when I found this cute Teddy Bo doctor image I just had to use it for his card.

Notice the New York skyline? I wanted to put a little bit of New York city into the card without making it look too cheesie. I found the skyline image online & then changed it to blue & used a "rock" effect to blend in with the DP. My son & DIL will be coming back to southern California in one more year! YAY! I can't believe how fast their time in New York as gone. I've missed them both so much. They're here visiting for his birthday & it's been such a JOY to see them. We've laughed & laughed til my sides ache. LOL
